Sunset Home & Business – Invoice issues

[updated 2/26/2017]

In the US version of Money Plus (and Sunset) Home & Business, it is possible to change the default invoice template. If you make the selection to print an invoice, which isn’t using the default template (top one in the pulldown list),  this change may be not be remembered after restarting this version of Money.

To fix this, and make a new custom default invoice template, you will need to modify the list of invoice templates in the 2008Invoice.ntd file, and then you should be able to ensure your custom invoice template is the one which is selected by default by moving it to the top of the list using a text editor.  NOTE: Make sure the Money program itself is closed when doing this editing.

By default for Windows XP, the files will be located ‘C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Money\17.0\Invoice’ – this may be a hidden directory, so you would need to select the ‘show hidden files and folders’ option in Tools->Folder Options->View under Windows Explorer.

In Windows 8, you should find the files in ‘C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Money\17.0\Invoice’.

In Windows 10, you should find the files in ‘C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Money\17.0\Invoice’.

If you have selected / created a new default invoice template, it would be a good practice to include a backup of your new invoice .htm file, a backup of your altered 2008Invoice.ntd file and a backup of any custom logo image on your CD that you’ve made with a backup copy of the Sunset install, along with a backup of your patched dll file and Pocketsense files (if you use this great addon). After a new install of Money, you will then overwrite named files with these backup versions.

Hi Using Microsoft Money Sunset Home & Business Invoice entry
The default way to enter data for the invoice is
    1. qty/hrs X Price/Rate = Net Total can I change it to
    2. Qty/Hrs Divide By Net Total = price/rate

    Thank you for your help

    Hi Sam,
No, that can’t be altered. It isn’t 2 out of 3 like investment purchases are. The way I get around the restriction is by listing products in various counts. For instance, in addition to xxx as a singular item, I have “xxx 25-count” and another “xxx 100-count” to reflect bulk packaged discounts.

    Hope this helps.

My Problem is when I enter Qty and per piece price net total does not match to what I have, if I could enter qty and net total it would be great but since you are saying it cannot be change right?

It calculates correctly. The net total does reflect customer discount, but tax is calculated at the bottom of the invoice, which is why it is called net total.

Hi Sir just emailed you 2 pics just to show you according to my register the item we sold is qty 18 @ the rate of $1.28 which will be equal to $23.12

When I am entering the same 18 @ $1.28 net total is $23.04
Sorry sir your help is really appreciated.
    Thank you

I didn’t get any pics, but $23.04 is correct. Sorry sir, but your register is wrong 🙂

The register is right it calculates with more than 2 decimal points but money will only calculate with 2 decimal points and thing more the 2 decimal points. That’s why I was asking you that if I could only put qty and net figures where money could calculate the per piece price but I think I will have to stick with Intuit used money for long time was really used to it I guess its time to give up. if you have any updates on this issue please, please notify me. Thank you for your help.

Ok, Sam, I ran an experiment. For a test item, I used the price per at $1.285 and it stays in the details, rather than rounding. So then creating an invoice for 18 test items, the net total = $23.22

You never mentioned that the items weren’t exactly $1.28 each, but I guess it was implied rather than the register being incorrect. 😉

What you want can be done in the details for individual products and services (under the business tab).

ok what can I do under products and services?
I have entered my Inventory @ cost with total qty and net price and it did calculate to the decimal of 4 but in retail is that possible? and are selling price is not fix to one price.

About two weeks ago I started getting the following error when downloading transaction activity for my Chase credit card:

“The file you attempted to import appears to be invalid or contains corrupt data. Please download the file again. If this problem continues, contact your financial institution.”

I contacted Chase tech support who told told me they do not support this service (i.e., MS Money) and would not be able to help me.

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Have you updated your Pocketsense? A new version is out as of today that may very well resolve your issue, or do mean web downloads?

There are several threads on the Internet about the problem with Chase.com credit card activity downloads in the QIF format. I suspect that for every Chase customer who complains on the Internet about it, there are many others, perhaps thousands, that also have the problem.

That’s a pretty thorough summary of Chase’s current downloads status, Stephen. Thanks for the link that may prove helpful to others. The only time I use QIF downloads are with PayPal, since that is all they offer, but in order to avoid repeat entries, you have to pay attention to the date range. With OFX/QFX, repeat entries are filtered out.

I do mean web download. I have never used Pocketsense.

Do you download as QIF or QFX? See this discussion for clues to resolve your Chase downloads.

    For instance:

If QIF downloads, by editing the .QIF file with Jedit adding the ^ character after each transaction where Chase has inserted a blank, then saving allowed me to then import the file.

    • Mark T. said

Inserting the ^ into the QIF worked for me, too. It’s not a perfect solution but it will do the job for now. I will look into using Pocketsense when I get a chance.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
